Short bio
Cristina Brăilescu is team leader in the Prevention and disaster risk management Unit of the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO). She has more than ten years of experience in the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), and over 16 years in the European Commission. In her current position, she is coordinating the Prevention and Preparedness programme team, which manages the peer review programme and the UCPM grant schemes for enhancing disaster risk management. Prior to her current position, she spent more than two years on EU forest protection and on the preparation of the EU Forest Strategy, in DG Environment. Cristina is a geographer with post-graduate degrees in Urban Management and Water Management, and has previously worked for the Romanian Ministry of Environment, the Bucharest City Hall, the University of Bucharest, and an environmental NGO.
